Welcome to House of Spice!

Hello and welcome to our new House of Spice Blog!

The blog will give us a chance to communicate in a relaxed manner and you’ll be able to post YOUR thoughts here too.

And it will give you a bit more insight into spices and their health benefits as well as other related topics. Some future topics include: cooking with specific spices, immunity boosting spices and spices that prevent aging.

Spices can add much more than flavor, color and variety to your favorite foods; many also have unique health-promoting properties.

According to Donna Tainter, food technologist and author of “Spices and Seasonings, A Food Technology Handbook”, many recent studies have validated the historic habit of using spices for health benefits.

Today I would like to leave you with a thought from Dr. David Frawely, founder and director of the American Institute for Vedic Studies in Santa Fe, New Mexico, who said:

“If I had only one single herb to depend upon for all possible health and dietary needs, I would without much hesitation choose the Indian spice Turmeric. There is little it cannot do in the realm of healing and much that no other herb is able to accomplish.

Turmeric has a broad spectrum of actions, mild but certain effects, and is beneficial for long term and daily usage. Though it is a common spice, few people, including herbalists know of its great value and are using it to the extent possible. It is an herb that one should get to know and live with.”

Turmeric’s Beneficial Effects in a Nutshell:

- Strengthens and improves digestion

- Reduces gas and bloating

- Improves your body’s ability to digest fats

- Promotes proper metabolism, correcting both excesses and deficiencies

- Supports healthy liver function and detox

- Purifies your blood

- Anti-inflammatory: Helps to reduce irritation to tissues characterized by pain, swelling and heat

- Contains curcuminoids that fight cancer, arthritis, and Alzheimer’s

In the future, I would like to provide you with a more thorough summary of the research I’ve amassed on the health benefits of Turmeric. But let’s leave that for another Blog entry.

I’d love to know what you think about the Blog, and to have your ideas about what you’d like me to write about. Until next time.
